The Canadian Swine Research and Development Cluster Corporation (CSRDC) was officially incorporated on January 15, 2010 as a corporation without share capital under part II of the Canada Corporation Act. It was founded by the Canadian Pork Council (CPC), who represents pork producers across Canada. 


The board includes nine members appointed by the Canadian Pork Council (CPC).


The mandates of the Board are:
  •  Approve the action plan and budgets
  •  Approve official partnerships and research networks
  •  Appoint and supervise the management team
  •  Guarantee the financial integrity of the Corporation
  •   Ensure cohesion between the politics and the actions of the Corporation.

The Board has set up three committees:

  • Finance Committee
  • Audit Committee
  • Executive Committee

Science Advisory Body

Jean-Paul Laforest

Department Head, Département des sciences animales, Faculté des sciences de l’agriculture et de l’alimentation, Laval University

Mr. Laforest is a physiologist and Chairman of the Science Advisory Body with research interests that include meat quality and swine production.

John F. Patience 

Associate Professor, Iowa State University

Mr. Patience worked many years at the Prairie Swine Centre but now resides in the United States. He has served on Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) panels.

Serge Pommier

Technical Account Manager, PIC

Mr. Pommier has been a technical account manager for PIC (Eastern Canada) for the past 16 years. He holds a PhD and for several years before joining PIC, he worked at the Meat Science Centre of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.


Jacques Surprenant

Director, Research and Development

Dairy and Swine Research and Development Centre

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC)

Mr. Surprenant is the Director of the Dairy and Swine Research and Development Centre of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC). He has been managing research activities with AAFC for the last 17 years. He has a PhD from the University of Minnesota and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from l’Université

de l’administration publique (ENAP).
